Presented by the Ocean Institute, this immersive activity invites kids to dive into the world of ocean chemistry and discover the incredible role of kelp in marine ecosystems. Children will test ocean water for key nutrients that kelp needs to grow, explore real kelp anatomy, and even touch live kelp in a special tank. With mini science stations, data-tracking trifolds, and guided water experiments—including dissolved oxygen tests—participants will record their own findings and see how ocean conditions affect kelp over time. It’s a hands-on journey that connects science with ocean conservation and the importance of keeping our waters clean.
The OC Kids Expo will take place on November 1, 2025, at Great Park in Irvine, CA.
